The Influences of Theophylline on the Morphine induced Analgesic Effect and Increase of Plasma Corticosterone Level

Abstract
The influences of theophylline on the morphine induced analgesic effect and increase of plasma corticosterone level in male mice were studied.
The results obtained were summarized as follows;
1. The plasma corticosterone level was not increased by the, treatment of theophylline 30 mg/kg, but markedly increased by the treatment of theophylline 50 mg/kg or 100 mg/kg.
2. The morphine induced increase of plasma corticosterone level was potenciated by the pre-treatment of theophylline 30 mg/kg for 30 minutes, but the morphine induced analgesic effect was not affected.
3. The pre-treatment of theophylline 50 mg/kg or 100 mg/kg for 30 minutes did not affect on the morphine induced increase of plasma corticosterone level, but slightly maintained the morphine induced analgesic effect.
4. The morphine induced increase of plasma corticosterone level was suppressed by thepre-treatment of theophylline 50 mg/kg for 90 minutes, and the morphine induced analgesic effect was suppressed by the pre-treatment of theophylline 50 mg/kg for 90 minutes as, compared with its 30 min. pretreatment.
